While researching for this blog I ran across this:

Lou Tambone: One can usually find you at conventions wearing a bow tie and many pins on your jacket. Is there any significance to the tie or is it just your preference. How do you choose what pins to wear and when?

Michael Sheard: This goes back to Grange Hill. Mr. Bronson was a dinosaur and when we were discussing what he would wear, I felt that he would always be smartly dressed and thought that a bow tie would finish off the ensemble. He wore a suit and bow tie throughout the series and it became his "uniform" at conventions. The pins I'm given all over the world and I change them as I move from convention to convention.

"You have failed me for the last time, Admiral."

Mr. Sheard died from cancer August 31 2005.Tomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12433794715369859715noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4204218161874269685.post-40732303751797275402009-09-28T08:12:00.000-07:002009-09-28T09:03:28.696-07:00Warwick Davis

Warwick Davis' first claim to fame came at the age of 11 when he was cast in the role of Wicket in 'Return of the Jedi'. Greedo, as you probably know, was one of the bounty hunters hired by Jabba the Hutt to capture Han Solo. Poor Greedo was killed at the cantina in Mos Eisley. In the video below he shoots first (Lucas had this done for the re-release so Han would not be a "cold blooded killer").

Prior to that she appeared in several low budget movies in the early 70s.

The Cremators

Blood Mania

Maria and I in Plano, TX

Tomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12433794715369859715noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4204218161874269685.post-23658590679688442352009-09-01T08:37:00.000-07:002009-09-01T08:37:00.402-07:00Michael Carter

Michael Carter is perhaps best known for his role as Bib Fortuna in 'Return of the Jedi'.

In an interview conducted by the guys at TheForce.net during one of the Dallas Sci-Fi Toy Show conventions Carter had this to say about his dialogue:

"Well somebody said--I don't know if it's true--that it was a Mongolian dialect run backwards. What they were doing in those days was coming across dialects from these obscure parts of the world and sort of running them backwards and writing it out phonetically. So, initially the lines had meant something, but all we got was Huttese. My first line was "Te wanna wanga." I can hardly remember any of them. I tried to create a meaning for them. I had a long scene with Mark Hamill when we walked down the corridor that was cut from the original which was all in Huttese. We each had our lines down, but it was very difficult to tell when the other had stopped speaking, so I'd be craning my neck around to watch his mouth. When he'd stop moving, I'd say my line. He was doing exactly the same thing. I had to shout at him, I remember, and when I shouted all my teeth came out in his face. But the scene we eventually shot was with both of us speaking English on the stairway. I don't think it was my voice but that it was someone impersonating my voice. You don't know what you're going to do in the part until you see yourself made-up."

I'm not sure when I took this photo, but I believe it was sometime around 1997. I've got a lot of cards; if I had to guess I would say I own somewhere around 100,000 cards. But this one is right up there in the top ten favorites...or maybe the top five.

This was the first card in my collection with the Bearkat logo proudly displayed. This was also the first card I owned that showed a field I've spent some time on. I've run several miles on that orange track and have walked up and down those bleachers many times since 1989.

I'm also pretty sure I was at this game, which was against our biggest rival, the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks.

Here are the other cards:

2009 Upper Deck #143

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; Brad Dourif, known by many as the voice of Chucky from the Child's Play series and who has appeared in many movies over the years, including Lord of the Rings, also appeared in Exorcist III. Lee Ermey, AKA 'The Gunny', was born 3/24/44 in Emporia, Kansas. As a teen, he had a few problems with the law; a judge gave him his two choices: jail or the military. Ermey wisely chose the military. The Marine Corps was the choice he made and a few years later he wound up in Viet Nam. Later, using the benefits of the GI Bill, he enrolled in college in the Philippines. While attending school there he had a part in The Boys of Company "C". Soon after he was in one of my favorites, Apocalypse Now (although it was a small role).

Ermey has been in more than 60 movies, but is probably best known for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann in Full Metal Jacket. His History Channel show Mail Call is another show he's well known for.

[Naughty Word Warning!]

Ermey was at the NRA convention as a representative for Glock. Probably the most well known player from this area is Adrian Peterson. However, I don't have any of his cards and probably won't be posting any unless I can get one signed. Perhaps one of these days I'll pick up a few and see if he'll sign a few. Hey, I've got connections.

The first post on this blog was from one of the local players. I thought it was about time to feature another.

Here's a card that I pulled out of a pack back in '92. Upper Deck released their first minor league set that year and I got the one card I was interested in: #321 John Cotton. John was playing for the Indians farm system at the time. Back in '91 he had the most stolen bases (57) in their minor league system.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 227px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4pKdxQxAf4UKbhGdt0JTIK7rbx2A6V9JTta7905ZPTesSDfq5ekfz8BsI8hUXF5RWBzEq5W6n_27hc59xQmLFi4uNy7inVPRBZDnbdqHGhlknuXrGd9GQXcB7G3sJYgncaJkE7FiJXKA5/s320/UD+Minors+92.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357052353658586018" />

I played Little League baseball against John (who was about a month younger than me) and his older brother. I haven't seen either of these guys in years. I did happen to run into his brother once back when we were both attending the same college about a year before this card was issued.

Recently I decided to pick up a few of his other cards. I bought this 2000 Upper Deck Black Diamond card off of Ebay last week. This card features a piece of his uniform that he wore during one of his games while playing in the 2000 Olympics. The USA team won the gold that year.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 227px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2ANXHMg_eAqWSsYLHI2wHcIZ60F17Sc2yCl28aZWI7ycT20eNo2vZm-VlYwFF3piXFLV9MOmQKiZKb5UxVY-QiyZzlvwvErYZGd9WZGX9LLnvW_uRcF5VFzVAc_a_CAQVMVEvxmTFv7bx/s320/UD+Black+Diamond1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357054129285214946" />

Last week I also bought his 2000 Bowman Chrome card, #108. This one has him with his Colorado Rockies uniform. The back states that he is the second person to play the most minor league games (1,273) that has not been called up to the majors.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI05H23bqKSEpEwA-QR9oVZCb4AaLvmV8EHi63GNaFVOyeZRcAKdo7u6EO0NUtsSSS82JteDaG1wXF1OvlT2epJC6On8XtecZqD63E4z3H4RxKVVkJhYMY6X8OtQ9PyBrdsPbkEmTBmkeQ/s320/Bowman+chrome1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357054978749705954" />Tomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12433794715369859715noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4204218161874269685.post-1822695408209142462009-07-07T09:52:00.000-07:002009-07-07T10:59:10.013-07:00Jim Hegan<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 211px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDmBpFolh18C7atLFW7kkd2odzcpIUL9wAp0gABbqivcyhd7o4i3gm0FaSMvA6W23jNGXLMy9HRzOsNC2qQoI3y_a_uSZmi-ph2Jec0P6eHbMuInUg_bZyOM6k0EXT4WXz9s8fK2pblexK/s320/Jim+Hegan.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354649137855393202" />

1952 Bowman #187

I've had this card for so long that I don't remember when, where, or why I bought it. More than likely I wanted a few vintage cards so I picked it up at a card show nearly twenty years ago.

Hegan played with the Indians for the majority of his career. He started with them in 1941 and left in '57. After that he played with several othr teams, including the Tigers, Phillies, Giants and Cubs. His last game was July 4th, 1960. A friend of mine sold cards out of his mom's store and I would pick up a card here and there. I had my eye on this for a long time but never had the $12.00 to spend on it (broke college student that I was). He ended up selling everything at a discount, something like 50% off everything, and I ended up buying this signed picture.

I'm not positive that Nolan signed this, since he is notorious for using the dreaded Autopen. And, from what I can tell, it just may be that.

Oh well...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 259px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY02BrToN4zU8o1jAqHW4woBOXiB1v2fLgowE7SpaXLso47SsbEwoC_bVwa-39wD7fjABAYMiCcJiB9Mc9aYyuA8cFMxRxMAN9gO7VuP8IptYkbTzbJYo3IR3c_TqIpYQWhy-lyEFbu2mA/s320/autopen.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355577510646991026" />Tomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12433794715369859715noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4204218161874269685.post-80488384462208141342009-07-01T21:13:00.000-07:002009-07-01T21:20:44.078-07:00Joe MontanaI was digging through about half a dozen boxes of cards tonight and I came across a Montana second year card. All the corners are razor sharp, there are no creases, no blemishes; in fact, it looks like it was just pulled out of a pack yesterday.

I've had these cards in a storage building for years, not really knowing what I had. I had pulled these boxes out to look for some late '60s to early '70s baseball cards and instead found my nearly complete set of 1982 Topps football.

Then...I found my box of '81 football cards. I checked the box but there was no Montana rookie to be found.

So, for now, I'll have to be content with this one.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 229px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7WnRjMtJgPT7uQQJ9l9XrupVOc46VU9gMPmOAkiQai3ra_lF12SaLu9cfqEHH5bKI2cz9fhMECttyyDAxr5yZ4pATuz1eduHIlS8nDlMeU7-Dz8_6AF3jqJRmsLz5FxluiDB678jLneCB/s320/joe+montana.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353712418806070530" />Tomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12433794715369859715noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4204218161874269685.post-28251847129439499452009-06-30T18:44:00.000-07:002009-06-30T19:09:27.502-07:00Jack McDowellJack McDowell played for the White Sox from 1987-1994. I enjoyed watching him during that period, which is probably about the time I sent this card to him. When he returned my card he also enclosed a flyer to promote his band, (I believe it was V.I.E.W. at that time or it might have been Stickfigure). I never sent off for one of his tapes; I looked for that flyer but seemed to have misplaced it.

During his career with the White Sox he as voted the Sporting News Pitcher of the Year, won the Cy Young Award, and was an All-Star three times.

After leaving Chicago he played with the Yankees, followed by the Indians, and ending up with the Angels.

Here's Black Jack McDowell on his 1989 Donruss:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 229px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPdzihiNVojYrkqlB0Xt295aK2aeCruQK-oVEMsD-jCCFkmSRsPUuR3k0ucwx99GlNt6-d5C5hpKxTSoY_0oiUeaFuiO30ZafM9rqVCnaVd2BMcQ8UnNCyVAgcl0YC2E8hbAcVXG3UP_YC/s320/Jack+McDowell.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353305623881097106" />

Tomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12433794715369859715noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4204218161874269685.post-33259421813893122522009-06-26T20:03:00.000-07:002009-06-26T20:43:24.813-07:00Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 319px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDtIsqMilswWLwVuEvsmLex0t5vAayIGqbtdhbtP0jYCjILigXsZxUnDUQuoSnEhVw5L0trs2Ip6SD36qRlrgwgoXSyQn_Z_HoG_3Ppfid3_X8Z7fTMzg3zHaHo4xIJzozdc0VlXcxi1TS/s320/Fromme.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351847103622735394" />

Back when I was just getting into TTM autograph collecting I picked up an issue of an autograph collecting magazine. Back then the internet was a rare thing; in fact, I don't believe I had ever had the experience of surfing the 'net, nor did I even own a computer.

Anyway, there was an article that included an envelope with Squeaky's address on it. I had to use a magnifying glass just to be able to make out the address. I knew as long as I had her prison ID number I would be ok; I was working for the Texas prison system at that time and had a clear understanding how a number followed a person around the system and that's all you really needed. So, if the address in Florida was old the letter would eventually catch up with her.

I mailed my letter to Squeaky back in 1997. I was surprised to get a reply. For a long time I didn't understand what she was talking about when she meantioned that all she was concerned with was "air, trees, water, animals". A few years later I read something about ATWA and learned what it meant. Fromme and Sandra Good use this term often to talk about the life force of nature.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 138px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5LUtDR1tn1-old9bXOdVUtR4A-K33wS1gF2z24yFXRT9xWhGMse_1dUbOmq0Dpknhx7DY0JrGsEuj8wNflyn6C3EtHlnRi7yX2AdoiPimJLvAuC9VHUDbMfrQI9gHKEzyVMMMS750Qgjh/s320/squeakyfromme.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351846791713611202" />

Lynette Fromme was somewhat of an icon back in the day. If some of you youngsters are still scratching your head wondering who this chick is I have two words for you: Manson Family. But that's not why she is in federal prison; attempting to kill President Ford landed her that gig.

Squeaky was one of Charlie's girls. She lived out at the Spahn ranch with him and the rest of his group. When he and the others went on trial for the Tate/Labianca killings she shaved her head and gouged out an X on her forehead to protest the criminal proceedings.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0CMySttsB_bv7TTTL4XRPYyiN2_B2EHtXVgdxwom1771sOQdVosFN8rto_B-EIAMMcrMEGjSrhgwbhqIZw3lvGKIssJ9It6o0qSHRSLF1o-M23OyVXE3xmbLv7ZsiL2U1zVANg6UM0xWV/s320/shaved+head.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351842639299784482" />

Here's a pic of her and Sandra Good:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 183px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8gy8ZFZSPdrp8b6UT6exhipUFODjxnlcoeesRixgN4uP1p9dMJVJeoBXhLZrSTdec3fC73D4zHztkgActXeznYUDitQJqJFvZCSLXU-SDTTZ3V5exaVNQk0bnZweym0Kp8yaX-nK0mCjP/s320/7.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351842985425283170" />

As I mentioned, she tried to assassinate Gerald Ford. The first time was around 1996 or '97; both times were in Plano, TX at a sci-fi convention. I remember the first time I saw him. I was standing in line outside in the parking lot, waiting for the building to open, and this tall, skinny guy walked past me. I had no idea who he was, since I had never seen him without a costume on.

That was my first sci-fi convention experience. I'll be posting more pics from all those that I attended in Plano in future posts.

I had someone in line behind me take this picture:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 254px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5IOjHxB6LREn9whUXrm-lw0tOAiPmEJSKlkc6pjsYcD3iBkmsQXknW_ypx5Ar8Gdy0nPCkMm8aQigQiM0lKqoI5-Ksx59LTh7g7qsraLQWa4XXjQB2XPJJbkTMWS6NCLROveBu1iuUZ_6/s320/peter_mayhew_2_1_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349595773648744354" />

Here's one I took of Mayhew and my wife, probably in 1999:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 219px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi86e9UItwR-gbzuubt5KKfEpdotaggB44pOlOfMs-dBsBM0ejPcoGy0qiUDGjMkXlOTa4Rhcg6UeiixLWHIk_Z-Sm9Ul5ZY7KoLIq4-1mdbsvUjH9g8nNWExk9CaEHuSTqafQA-HTIJ2yD/s320/Peter+Mayhew-Misty.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349596249152283410" />Tomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12433794715369859715noreply@blogger.com1
