Yvonne Craig

Yvonne Craig, one time girlfriend of Elvis Presley, is best known as Batgirl (1967-68). She also appeared on many other TV shows, including two of my favorites as a kid growing up in the '70s: 'The Six Million Dollar Man' and 'Starsky and Hutch'.

Here's Yvonne from around 1997 when I met her at a sci-fin convention in Plano, TX. She is retired from the convention circuit but still sells signed 8x10s on her website for $25.00 plus postage (I think I might have paid $10.00 in person). Yvonne is by far one of the nicest celebs I've ever met.

Linda Harrison

Linda Harrison is probably known best for her role as Nova in 'Planet of the Apes' and 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes'. She was also the first person to play Wonder Woman on television (which failed to make it as a series until Linda Carter played tht role years later). She was also in a couple Batman episodes with Adam West.

Pee Wee Reese

I won a Pee Wee Reese card (1957 Topps #30) card on Ebay on July 3rd. Today it finally showed up in my mail box. It's miscut, as can be seen at the top margin, but I figure it's a pretty good deal for my winning bid of $10.50.

Ive been trying to get a few vintage cards of some Hall of Famers. I've picked up a few over the years but this is my first Reese card.

-Brooklyn Dodgers (1940-1942 and 1946-1957), Los Angeles Dodgers (1958)
-10× All-Star selection (1942, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954)
-World Series champion (1955)
-1956 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award
-Hall of Fame (1984)
-WWII vet

David Prowse

I used to hit the sci-fi conventions on a regular basis when I lived north of Dallas, TX. The first show that I attended featured Prowse and a few other cast members of the first Star Wars trilogy. This was the first of many signed 8x10s that I bought back in those days.

Here's a picture I took of Dave (1997)

John Cotton

I like to collect cards of people I know, went to school with, or who are from my area. Probably the most well known player from this area is Adrian Peterson. However, I don't have any of his cards and probably won't be posting any unless I can get one signed. Perhaps one of these days I'll pick up a few and see if he'll sign a few. Hey, I've got connections.

The first post on this blog was from one of the local players. I thought it was about time to feature another.

Here's a card that I pulled out of a pack back in '92. Upper Deck released their first minor league set that year and I got the one card I was interested in: #321 John Cotton. John was playing for the Indians farm system at the time. Back in '91 he had the most stolen bases (57) in their minor league system.

I played Little League baseball against John (who was about a month younger than me) and his older brother. I haven't seen either of these guys in years. I did happen to run into his brother once back when we were both attending the same college about a year before this card was issued.

Recently I decided to pick up a few of his other cards. I bought this 2000 Upper Deck Black Diamond card off of Ebay last week. This card features a piece of his uniform that he wore during one of his games while playing in the 2000 Olympics. The USA team won the gold that year.

Last week I also bought his 2000 Bowman Chrome card, #108. This one has him with his Colorado Rockies uniform. The back states that he is the second person to play the most minor league games (1,273) that has not been called up to the majors.

Jim Hegan

1952 Bowman #187

I've had this card for so long that I don't remember when, where, or why I bought it. In fact, I forgot I had it until I was going through my collection last week. More than likely I wanted a few vintage cards so I picked it up at a card show nearly twenty years ago.

Hegan played with the Indians for the majority of his career. He started with them in 1941 and left in '57. After that he played with several othr teams, including the Tigers, Phillies, Giants and Cubs. His last game was July 4th, 1960. He was an All-Star in 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952.

After his stint as a catcher he served as a coach with the Yankees and the Tigers.

Nolan Ryan

I bought this signed photo of Nolan Ryan somewhere around 1993. A friend of mine sold cards out of his mom's store and I would pick up a card here and there. I had my eye on this for a long time but never had the $12.00 to spend on it (broke college student that I was). He ended up selling everything at a discount, something like 50% off everything, and I ended up buying this signed picture.

I'm not positive that Nolan signed this, since he is notorious for using the dreaded Autopen. And, from what I can tell, it just may be that.

Oh well...

Joe Montana

I was digging through about half a dozen boxes of cards tonight and I came across a Montana second year card. All the corners are razor sharp, there are no creases, no blemishes; in fact, it looks like it was just pulled out of a pack yesterday.

I've had these cards in a storage building for years, not really knowing what I had. I had pulled these boxes out to look for some late '60s to early '70s baseball cards and instead found my nearly complete set of 1982 Topps football.

Then...I found my box of '81 football cards. I checked the box but there was no Montana rookie to be found.

So, for now, I'll have to be content with this one.
